Floods in Northern China Affect More Than 5,2 Million People

Beijing, Sep 4 (Prensa Latina) More than 5,2 million people are affected and over 3,1 billion dollars in economic losses are today part of the damages caused by rains in the northern province of Heilongjiang, bordering with Russia.

According to official versions, 331 000 persons were relocated, 18 300 homes were destroyed and roads damaged or partially closed, while 8 000 rescue workers fight against floods.

Since August, river Heilongjiang waters began to rise and some sections of the low and middle zones suffer the worst floods of its history. Other rivers have exceeded their security level for several weeks, sources added.

Specialists expect by the end of September waters get back to normal.
