Lung Diseases Cause One of Ten Deaths in Europe

London, Sep 8 (Prensa Latina) The Respiratory Society in Europe reported that lung diseases cause one of every ten deaths in the continent, and smoking is one of the main risk factors.

According to that body, the incidence of lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) will increase over the next 20 years, due to high smoking rates in the past.

Likewise, a British non-governmental organization pointed out that lung diseases kill one of four people in the United Kingdom.

The statistics, published in the European Lung White Book, take into account the latest information released by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), which analyze the trends of lung diseases.

The term lung disease refers to several disorders that affect the lungs, such as asthma, COPD, infections like flu, pneumonia and tuberculosis, and lung cancer, among others.
