Tropical Storm Humberto Reaches Hurricane Category

Havana, Sep 11 (Prensa Latina) Tropical storm Humberto reached hurricane category today, with maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour, gusting higher, according to the Cuban Institute of Meteorology (INSMET).

At 06:00 local time, the center of the system was estimated to be at 16.1 degrees north latitude and 29.0 degrees west longitude, about 515 kilometers west northwest of the islands south of Cape Verde in the eastern Atlantic.

Humberto is moving north by northwest at 13 kilometers per hour, said INSMET.

INSMET also predicts that in the next 24 to 48 hours this hurricane will veer gradually northward, increasing its speed and intensity, with the possibility of experiencing a weakening on Thursday.

Humberto is the eightth tropical storm of the current hurricane season in the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico.
