Tropical Storm Humberto Strengthens

Washington, Sep 10 (Prensa Latina) Tropical Storm Humberto was gaining in intensity today and maintaining a west-northwest path, with maximum sustained winds of 100 kph, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

At 11 a.m. local time, Humberto was located at 14.6 degrees North latitude and 27.7 West longitude, about 355 km west of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands, in the Atlantic.

It was estimated that the storm would take a turn to the northwest and could reach hurricane strength by evening, according to the latest Hurricane Center report.

Humberto was moving at a speed of 15 kph and its minimum pressure dropped to 998 hPa, forecasters said.

Experts predicted 13 to 20 named tropical formations for this year's hurricane season in the Atlantic region, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, and seven to 11 of those formations were expected to become hurricanes, some of them major.
