Some 100,000 Children to Be Vaccinated against Polio in Angola

Luanda, Dec 16 (Prensa Latina) Nearly 100,000 children under five years of age will be vaccinated against poliomyelitis in the Angolan province of Lunda Sul, during the third stage of the nationwide immunization campaign, health authorities confirmed.

According to the provincial health director Samuquinda Maria Costa, some 112,000 doses of the vaccine are available, and 664 volunteers and 45 vehicles have been mobilized in the region, 800 kilometers southeast of Luanda.

He pointed out that for this campaign, which was launched nationwide on Friday, faraway zones on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo have been prioritized.

Lunda Sul Deputy Governor Joao Baptista Manaca Abreu called on all heads of households and tutors to allow the health volunteers to vaccinate their children against poliomyelitis.
