Assistance Provided to Nicaraguans Families Victims of Bad Weather

Managua, Aug 6 (Prensa Latina) Nicaraguans families affected by a storm receive food, clothing, hygiene supplies and other humanitarian aid, while forecasts for today warn of persistent rain in the country due to a low pressure system.

Among the places demanding aid is the town of Prinzapolka, in the North Atlantic Autonomous Region (RAAN), which the government began delivering emergency supplies to about 900 households, equivalent to more than 6,000.

According to confirmed the National System for Prevention, Mitigation of and Attention to Disaster (SINAPRED), the cargo with resources leaved from this capital last Friday, but it was delayed on the way by floods and overflowing rivers.

To San Carlos, about 290 kilometers southeast of Managua, leaved another contingent of humanitarian aid and food supplies for 50 families, said SINAPRED.

Hundreds of families living in RAAN territories, the South Atlantic Autonomous Region (RAAS) and the Department of Rio San Juan were evacuated preventively before the rising rivers, including El Rama, Indio Maiz, Wawashang, Kurinwas, Prinzapolka Kama and Kukra River.

According to the executive, the ministries of Agriculture and Forestry and Home Economics, Community, Cooperative and Associative evaluated the havocs to establish a program of support to all affected areas.

Forecasts of the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies indicate that rainfall will continue because of the effects of an intertropical convergence zone, with greater impact on the Caribbean regions.
