Wildfires in U.S. Destroy Houses

Washington, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) U.S. fire-fighters today continue working to contain three forest fires that have burned at least 100,765 hectares of forests, and damaged more than 100 houses in Idaho and Utah, both located in western U.S.

According to press reports, fire-fighters are using water-dropping helicopters and planes alongside bulldozers, engines and other heavy equipments, but they could only contain five percent of the fires, all of them caused by lightning.

Idaho Governor Butch Otter declared a state of disaster for Idaho after two fires forced the evacuation of an undetermined number of people and destroyed 71 houses.

While in Utah, the fires burned down about 12 houses and another 15 structures.

Neither dead nor injured have been reported so far in any of the three fires, but authorities urged to take precautions because there is enough dry grazing, high temperatures and strong winds which favor the spreading of the fires.
