Humanitarian Aid for Victims in the Russian Far East

Moscow, Aug 15 (Prensa Latina) A plane from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations went to the Far East today with a cargo of humanitarian aid for flood victims, spread over 100 villages in the region.

Tons of food, pumping equipment, furniture, and boats are moved on board the aircraft, noted the official spokeswoman Irina Rossius.

President Vladimir Putin on Thursday instructed the Ministries of Emergency Situations and Defense to strengthen the forces and facilities provided to protect the population and face the consequences of the climate phenomenon.

Putin met with Vladimir Puchkov and Sergei Shoigu, in charge of those ministries and Health minister Veronica Skvortsova, in order to design additional contingency measures and minimize the social and economic impact of the floods, reported the press service of the Kremlin.

Since the floods began late in July, more than 3,000 homes in more than a hundred Russian Far East locations have been flooded.

More than 15,000 people, mostly from Amur village were evacuated.

The official noted that this climatological situation is unusual in the Russian Far East so it must be studied by especialists.
