China: Floods Affect Two Million People

Beijing, Aug 27 (Prensa Latina) More than two million people were affected and 20 died due to the floods caused by heavy rainfall registered in the northeastern zone of China, according to official sources in the province of Jilin.

The province´s Civil Affair department calculated the evacuation of 239,000 inhabitants in 56 regions, while 585,000 cultivable hectares were affected.

Nearly 12,000 properties were destroyed, 146,000 houses were considerably damaged and economic losses equivalent to 1.7 million USD.

Heilongjiang and Liaoning provinces were also affected.
