Heavy Rainfall Kill 55 in Mali

Bamako, Aug 29 (Prensa Latina) Nearly 55 people died on Wednesday in this capital due to strong rainfall that flooded some downtown neighborhoods, Civil Protection services reported today.

It rained nonstop for over five hours and several houses were flooded and numerous vehicles were swept along by the rain, the source informed.

Some adobe houses collapsed in some outskirt communities, according to Civil Protection, which assured the death toll can increase in the next hours.

Heavy rainfall in Bamako, located southeast Mali, are usual from June to September.
