Heavy rains kill 24 in Malian capital

Bamako, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) At least 24 people died in heavy rains descending upon the Malian capital Bamako on Wednesday, the government said.

The downpour also caused heavy damage to property, the West African country's Internal Security Minister Tiefing Konate said in a press statement.

The minister said 19 of the victims died in Banconi, a populous district in the capital.
