Typhoon Trami Hits China with Strong Winds, Heavy Rainfall

Beijing, Aug 22 (Prensa Latina) Typhoon Trami hit China today carrying winds of 160 kilometers per hour and heavy rainfall that have reached 100 millimeters, according to local weather authorities.

Trami, the 12th phenomenon of this type that affects this country, hit the coastal city of Fuqing with strong winds that registered 163.4 kilometers per hour as maximum speed in Niushan island, in Pingtan district.

Weather sources forecast Trami could head west carrying storms as it crosses the north and central coastal zones of the affected region.

Emergency plans were activated in the provinces of Zhenjinang and Fujian.

Tourists, fishermen and inhabitants of China´s coastal provinces were evacuated.
