Environmental Damage by Pemex Accident Disregarded

Mexico, Apr 2 (Prensa Latina) Mexican oil company Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) disregarded the fact that the accident in one of the platforms in the Gulf of Mexico -which provoked 4 dead and 16 injured people- has an environmental impact.

Pemex let all the fuel located in the Abkatun-A Platform burning, to avoid there could be a spill, so the environmental damage is disregarded, assured Ignacio Duran, Pemex manager for Social Communication.

"The fuel being burned was the one in process; to let it burn avoided a spill, so discard ecological damage in the area," Duran said in a radio interview.

He reiterated that the" little spill will not affect the production of gasoline and guaranteed the supply nationwide."

He also said that seven people remain hospitalized in Campeche, while two contractors who are seriously injured, were transferred to Mexico City for special care, and commented all the corresponding analyses are being made to determine the identity of the four victims as to informe their respective families.
