Environmental Risk in the Falklands Denounced by Argentina

Buenos Aires, Apr 2 (Prensa Latina) Argentina denounced today that companies with cooperation of the United Kingdom currently conduct illegal prospecting of hydrocarbons from an oil rig offshore the Falkland Islands (Malvinas), something that jeopardizes environment.

The denunciation coincides today with the 33th anniversary of the Malvinas, a date that will be highlighted by President Cristina Fernandez at a ceremony in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego.

Daniel Filmus, secretary for the Malvinas Affairs, said that the Government will bring a lawsuit against those companies, "we want them to be judged following the Argentine law and international law", he told the news agency Telam.

"A new oil rig just arrived in the islands for one of the most important prospecting of hydrocarbons in the area, with a huge environmental risk", said Filmus.

Filmus said he hopes the process result in the arrest warrant issued by Argentine judges against those illegally operating in the Argentinean Sea.

Meanwhile in Buenos Aires, the Ministries of Culture and Social Development organized a political artistic activity for the Veterans Day at the Museum of the Malvinas, under the slogan "Art for Peace".
