Sea Level Rises Eight Centimeters Since 1992

Washington, Aug 27 (Prensa Latina) Sea level rose an average of nearly eight centimeters worldwide since 1992, a tendency that will continue the next few years, informed the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

The main cause of the increased level of the oceans and seas is global warming.

NASA scientists presented the latest data on the increase of the sea levels on the planet, with an average of 7.62 centimeters, although the situation varies in different parts of the world and in some places the increase exceeded the 22 cm.

A geophysicist at the University of Colorado, Steve Nerem, said that "it's very likely to get worse" in the future.

According to experts, the increase in sea level threatens the future of many coastal towns and villages across the planet, and threatens to wipe out forever many islands, in some cases, especially in the ocean Pacific, entire countries might disappear.
