Storm Erika Leaves At Least Two Dead and Heavy Floods in Dominica

Roseau, Aug 27 (Prensa Latina) Tropical storm Erika left its first victims today in Dominica, two deaths, four people missing and severe floods due to heavy rain in the past few hours.

Several media organizations show footage of overflowing rivers, flooded roads and plantations, stranded cars, devastation of road infrastructure and fallen trees in this capital and other areas of the nation.

According to a Caribbean 360's webside report, a building collapsed, two people drawned and another four were carried by the water and are still missing in bath Estate neighborhood, in this capital.

The local meteorological service registered 225 mm of rain and strong gusts from yesterday night until this morning in Canefield Airport locality, near Roseau.

Besides, more rain was forecast for today though the strom is moving away from Dominica.

Erika got tronger in the past few hours, advancing towards the west at 26 km per hour, and is located some 205 km from Guadeloupe.

Forecasts point to a turn to the west-northwest, becoming a category one hurricane over the weekend before hitting the Bahamas.
