Costa Rica Reports 27 Deaths From H1N1 Flu Virus

San Jose, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) The Health Ministry of Costa Rica reported today 27 deaths from H1N1 flu virus, although it says the number of patients hospitalized due to the disease has decreased.

According to a statement issued by this entity, the most recent victim is an old woman who was also suffering from high blood pressure, heart disease and severe complications for a respiratory syndrome.

The influenza reappeared in the country at the end of December and since then every week it claims new lives.

However, health authorities refuse to immediately launch a national vaccination campaign and insist on applying the medicine in April, when the virus circulates with greater force.

They will only tighten preventive measures and surveillance in health clinics to care for people with respiratory problems.
