Electronic Taxis in Pilot Progam in Bogota

Bogota, Sep 2 (Prensa Latina) About 50 electric taxis will start circulating today in Bogota as part of a pilot plan that will run for five days.

According to the El Tiempo newspaper, the emissions free public transportation vehicles are part of a program promoted by the Ministry of Environment.

"The initiative is meant to encourage other cities to do the same," said the Deputy Environment Minister, Adriana Soto.

In this capital, added El Tiempo, four electric recharging stations were constructed to service the vehicles.

In statements released by that newspaper, the manager of Airport Radio Taxi, Uldarico Peña, said that testing has been underway for more than a year to see if the cars can function on rough terrain.
