Bolivia to Launch Program to Commemorate Mother Earth Day

La Paz, Apr 22 (Prensa Latina) The Bolivian government will launch today an environmental program and a ministerial resolution with the intention to recycle solid waste, coinciding with the Mother Earth Day, celebrated every April 22.

The Minister of Environment and Water, Alexandra Moreira, reported that the program of the celebrations includes activities like an environmental program, an awareness campaign and a ministerial resolution to recycle waste in state subsidiaries.

Moreira said the environmental education program called 'My Mother Earth, My Future' feature two characters: a girl named Suri and Chapu, her puppy that will help society to know how to take care of the environment.

He also stressed that the campaign will try to raise awareness about the need to reduce the use of plastic bags, and the Ministry of Environment will deliver reusable bags, which cause less harm for the environment.

The material from which plastic bags are manufactured not only takes years to decompose, but often clogged drains routes when they are abandoned on the streets.

The United Nations approved in 2009 renaming the International Earth Day as the International Day of Mother Earth, and its main objectives is the fight against climate change with the support of the entire population.
