Earthquakes Shake Santiago de Cuba

Santiago de Cuba, Jan 17 (Prensa Latina) It is still strong today the uneasiness among the inhabitants of this city, after several perceptible earthquakes recorded from 1:37 (local time), when it occured the first, of a 4.8 magnitude.

Since the second one, reported at 1:48 (local time) with a 4.6 magnitude, moderate shakings have hardly stopped.

Many people of Santiago have come down from the upper floors of the buildings and have chosen to wait in the streets to see if the earth definitely calms.

The first tremor in this the new year happened last Monday with a 3.2 magnitude and four kilometers west-southwest of Baconao Beach, the most active seismic area in the national territory.

The stations network of the National Seismological Service continues monitoring these earthquakes, the first of which were perceived in this province and in Granma and Guantánamo.
