Cuba Reports Fifth Imported Zika Case

Havana, Mar 19 (Prensa Latina) Cuban health authorities on Saturday confirmed the fifth imported Zika case in the country.

The patient is a 27-year-old woman who arrived in Cuba on March 9 from Brazil, where she traveled for personal reasons.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), in the night of March 11, the patient had a fever. She was attended to at the Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Institute (IPK) on the 13th.

In that institution, she was treated by the doctor on duty, who decided to admit her after detecting a rash in her neck, which spread to the thorax and arms. She was also tired and suffered from lumbar pain, so she was tested for the Zika virus.

At the same time, adds the press release, all epidemiological actions and vector control measures were taken.

On March 17, the IPK reported that the test for Zika was positive.

At present, the patient is still in the hospital and her general state is good.
